After 33 hours of travel, we have arrived in Hangzhou which is
the provincial capital of Sophie’s province! It is amazing to me
to think that she is only about a 2 hour drive from where we are
staying! Our guide, Rebecca, told us on the ride to our hotel
that we will receive Sophie at the Civil Affairs Office on
Monday at 9:00 a.m. (which is 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at home)!
Rebecca said that two days ago, she spoke with the director of
the SWI. He reported that Sophie has been well. He also informed
Rebecca of the formula that she is drinking. Rebecca gave us a
bag of formula and a stuffed panda bear as a gift from Josh and
Lily. One more day…can’t wait!
Our travel was wonderful! We easily navigated through each
airport, had plenty of time to make our connecting flights and
were pleasantly surprised that all of our luggage made it all
the way to China without any damage or loss. For my fact-loving
boys, I took special notes just for you on the airplane ride
from LAX to Seoul, Korea. These are some things I know you would
be interested in:
~We rode on a HUGE airplane called an Airbus. Each row had nine
seats across with two aisles.
~We took a shuttle to the airplane and the walkways to the plane
reminded us of the Space Mountain ride at Disneyland.
~The airplane flew at 38,000 feet at 516 miles per hour.
~The temperature outside was -50 to -70 degrees.
~We flew over the Pacific Ocean, Bering Strait and Japan.
~They served us dinner at 3:00 in the morning! We had a choice
of beef tenderloin with potatoes and carrots OR Bi-Bib-Bab with
soup and Kimchi :) What do you think we chose to eat?
~At 11:00 in the morning, they served us breakfast. We had a
choice of an omelet with ham and hash browns OR spicy octopus
with steamed rice! Christian, I think you probably would have
tried the octopus! We aren’t as adventurous as you are. Dad says
on the way home, he will try the octopus!
~The flight attendants provided great service and would nod
their head in a bow after serving you or speaking to you.
~Each seat had its own television. We watched Kung Fu Panda.
~We had to wait at the airport in Korea for 8 hours for our next
plane to China. Michael, they had KFC, Burger King and Dunkin
Donuts at the airport. You would have liked that! In true family
fashion, mom and dad “wore” our dinner :) What is it with
mustard? I’m sure we impressed Rebecca with spills from 2 days
of travel down our shirts…
Our flight to China from Korea was only about 2 hours long. It
was amazing to fly into Zhejiang knowing how close we are to
little Sophie! The ride to the hotel was so interesting with
people and bicycles EVERYWHERE! We haven’t left the hotel since
we arrived this afternoon. Tomorrow we will go to church with
our guide and then have some adoption paperwork to complete
after that. Good night from China! |
