Our Family
Susan
I am a 50+ single mom by choice. Adoption has always been part
of my life, as I was adopted as an infant. I very much wanted to
be a Mom and have a family of my own, so I adopted two little
girls from China. Claire Xinyan was adopted from Hunan province,
at 26 months in 2002. Camille Xinxia was adopted from Jiangxi
province at 18 months in 2004. I felt our family was perfect and
complete. I come from a family with 3 children, and I always
thought maybe when my girls were older, we would adopt again.
But, China closed its doors to single women, and I was content.
However, China re-opened to singles via the Special Focus
program in March of 2011 and I started to think about expanding
our family. After hearing messages at church to “Do Something”,
and traveling and seeing the poverty in the world, I felt God
opening my heart to consider adoption once again. Finding a
child that met the requirements for China for single women, as
well as our requirements was not easy, but eventually when I
first saw Yuan Xiaoni in early 2012, I know she was a perfect
fit for our family!
Claire is 12.5 and is in seventh grade. She is a
happy, social girl, who wants to become a veterinarian, or a
teacher. She is a straight A student, and is very involved in
many after school clubs and activities, as well as playing
clarinet in the school band. She loves all animals, especially
horses. She is a great leader, friend, and big sister.
Camille is 10 and in fourth grade. She is smart (straight
A’s), funny (always keeps us laughing), and loving (she has a
kind and gentle heart).. She shares her sister’s love for
animals. She is also very athletic, and musical. She is excited
to give up her role as the baby of the family and become a big
sister.
Rosie is our 6 year old Labradoodle. She thinks she is a
human, and often “talks and sings” to us. She is full of energy,
but is also very sweet and loves to cuddle. Her favorite
activities are playing tug of war, playing Frisbee, and
“guarding” the house.
