FREE DAY

Today is a free day, and we are spending it getting ready for tomorrow. We are getting our paperwork in order, packing a small bag to take for our trip to Philip Hayden, and resting! There will also be a quick trip to the local grocery for some food for Philip.

Everyone from our group is gone now. Tomorrow a coordinator named Shirley from our agency will arrive to drive us to Philip’s foster village. From that point on she will be with us. Good thing! Every time Kevin and I venture out on our own in Beijing, we feel kind of lost because of the language barrier. We tried to find an eatery the other night on our own in the high-rise shopping mall just down the street from our hotel, and it was like a bad dream in which you cannot find your way out. Many sales people came up to help us but did not speak English, so they could never answer our questions. We kept riding up on the escalators and trying to figure out the signs, but then we couldn’t find our way back out! We never did find an eatery in the mall. When we finally escaped from the mall, we turned the corner and there they were - the restaurants we had been searching!!

Today when we tried to find a Subway sandwich shop, we were peacefully walking down a street almost there when a truck a little ways down the block began to spray insecticide into the trees. Since the workers sitting on the truck spraying had on protective gear and they were coming our way, we decided we needed to hurriedly turn around and go another direction. Needless to say, we haven’t ventured out very much today!!

Our friends, Chasity, Travis, and their young son Trayjan will be receiving their daughter today! This little girl was a child we thought might be our daughter back in October. We even had our Bible study group pray about it; but on the way home from Bible study that night, our son said that maybe she wasn’t supposed to be in our family. Rather, maybe we needed to pray for her to find her forever family. We did just that. The next day this little girl was removed from the “Needs a family” list and put on the “A family is reviewing her file” list.

Getting documents ready!
A couple of months went by, and one day I was looking at family websites for those adopting from China. I found this little girl’s family’s website! I immediately e-mailed them and let them know we had been praying for this little girl back in October. Since then, we have kept in touch. They said they would be praying for us to find our child, too. Their process slowed down, and when we found our son, our process speeded up. Because of those two factors, we are here in China together receiving our children! This is a great example of how in all things it is God’s timing, not ours!

Shirley will come for us tomorrow around 8:00 A.M. Monday morning Beijing time, 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening Indiana time. It will be approximately an hours drive to the Philip Hayden Foundation, so around 9:00 A.M. we will arrive at Philip’s China home to meet him for the first time. Our lives and his will change forever from that moment on! We know that your thoughts and prayers will go with us and envelop us, and we thank you for that. Please pray for Philip that he has an easy transition to us and that he just knows deep down in his heart that we are his mom and dad (and big brother waiting at home). Please pray that he is not afraid and does very well. Also, please pray for Kevin and me to have great wisdom and ability in helping him adjust to his new life. We will be calling Ted sometime after we receive him so that Ted can talk to him by phone. I know Philip won’t understand what is being said, but it will be a connection to his big brother nevertheless. Kevin, Ted, and I love you all. Thank you so much for your unending support and love as we adopt our new little son.

“For I know the plans I have for you“, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
