Thursday, January 10, 2013 Greetings from Beijing. We made it here. After departing on Tuesday, January 8, and traveling for over 18 hours, we arrived in Beijing at almost midnight on January 9th. We were met by our lovely host and guide, Joy. We slept for a few hours, and got an early start on Thursday morning. We toured the Temple of Heaven first. The girls were excited, but a little apprehensive with all the vendors approaching us to sell us things. We enjoyed watching some ladies knit, a man spinning a top on a long string, and a man writing calligraphy on the sidewalk with water. We also went on a hutong tour, and had lunch with a family in the hutong. We visited with another family, and met the patriarch of the family. He took a liking to Camille, thought she was not dressed warm enough, and brought her a handmade cotton vest to wear over her jacket. We returned to Joy's and made homemade dumplings for dinner. Jet lag kicked in and we were in bed early.
